Our History

Our pioneer fathers, having already been  acquainted with evangelical truth in 1912 in the City of Hamilton, Ontario,  they then in 1913 experienced the Pentecostal outpouring, which spread to the Cities of Toronto and Montreal a few years later.  They were led by the Holy Spirit to preach the full gospel of Jesus Christ to Italians in Canada. By the early 1920's, Italian speaking Pentecostal churches were established in several cities in Ontario and Quebec.  God mightily accompanied the preaching of these dedicated and fearless men, with signs and wonders and many joined the faith, in spite of intense opposition. We became known as the Italian Pentecostal Church of Canada.

The first official conference of churches that identified with the IPCC took place in 1944. Annual conferences followed. All the churches at these gatherings were committed to cooperate in three areas of common interest; missionary endeavours, maintaining unity of doctrine and recognition of God-given ministries. While each church in our fellowship is autonomous in its organization and administration, we have entered into a voluntary co-operative fellowship with sister churches of like faith committed to cooperation in the same three areas.

During the annual church conference held in Toronto in 2005, the voting constituency of the fellowship voted on and adopted the name, General Conference of the Canadian Assemblies of God. The Holy Spirit had been enlarging our vision to reach out to and welcome all Canadians. In addition to English and Italian, soon churches where French, Haitian, Spanish, Portuguese, Sri Lankan, Filipino and Iranian were spoken became integral parts of our fellowship. Several African churches have also been added. A French Conference of the CAOG was established in 2013.  To God be the Glory!

We remain profoundly grateful to the LORD for our spiritual roots. We also recognize that the blossoming of these roots is embracing people of all nations, who like our founders have come to Canada to find the Saviour of the world, our LORD JESUS CHRIST and the fullness of the Holy Spirit.

Amen.
